Transformation Tuesday: Tailgating Tips and Tricks

Tailgating Tips and Tricks

Whether you’re getting taken out to the ballgame or you’re ready for some football, you will definitely want to participate in that greatest of American traditions: tailgating! Tailgating has become as much of an event in its own right as the big game; families and friends gather together for classic dishes like burgers, hot dogs, fruit salad, and any and everything else you can think of. In preparation for your next tailgate, read on to find out the top tips and tricks you can use to make your tailgate a touchdown!

 On the night before…

Getting prepped is the first and, dare we say, most important step of pulling off a successful tailgate. No one wants to finally find that perfect parking space and get set up, only to find that you forgot your cooler full of condiments at home! Pack up your food the night before, making sure to organize everything properly so it’s ready to go from refrigerator to cooler in the morning. Separate burgers and steaks with steak paper so that they can go from cooler to grill in a matter of seconds, portion out fruit salad or chopped veggies into deli containers (they can even double as serving bowls if you’re looking to tailgate on a budget!), and be sure to stock up on plenty of ice so that the lemonade and beer stay cool and refreshing all day long!

 On the day of…

When setting up your tailgate, try to create “stations” so that people do not have to cluster and reach over each other to get what they need: a cutlery station with dining kits and extra napkins (for added team pride, we suggest using napkins that are your team’s colors!) can be placed next to the plates and cups—think biodegradable for both if you want your tailgate to be an eco-friendly one! Try to make the flow from one station to the next as natural as possible—make sure guests get their plates before their food, that cups are located near the drinks, and that a “clean-up” station with paper towels and hand sanitizer is available for guests to clean off that ketchup and barbeque sauce before slipping on their giant foam fingers!

 On the day after…

Ok, so maybe you were a little overzealous in your tailgate preparations, and now you’ve got some serious leftovers to contend with. So what can you do with a half-dozen cooked burgers, some potato salad, and a hefty helping of chili? Portion your leftovers out into containers to create easy grab-and-go meals for the workweek! The 9 to 5 grind at the office may not be as much fun as game day, but at least you’ll have the delicious reminder of your terrific tailgate.
